H. G. WELLS

September 21, 1866 - August 13, 1946

Born Herbert George Wells, the youngest of four boys in a poor family, he first discovered the other worlds that could be visited from reading books while convalescing from a broken leg in 1874. In later years, he taught for a time, including one writing student who would come to be known as A.A. Milne. Wells married twice and had a number of liaisons and children with other women as well as two sons by his second wife. Besides being a philanderer, he was a pantheist and a socialist.
